How BMI Predicts Treatment Outcomes for Lipedema, Obesity and Lymphedema
- Today, I’d like to share with you about a research conducted by Dr. Arin Greene and Christopher Sudduth called Lower extremity lymphatic function predicted by body mass index: a lymphoscintigraphic study of obesity and lipedema published in the International Journal of Obesity in September 2020.
- The authors are interested in helping to make a distinction between lymphedema, obesity, and lipedema to help medical providers make a more accurate diagnosis, and to guide treatment appropriate to the condition that’s actually there, and allow some way of estimating or predicting what the treatment outcomes will be.
- They concluded that the risk of lymphedema in patients with obesity and lipedema can be predicted by BMI through lymphoscintigraphy.
