Role and Therapeutic Potential of Dietary Ketone Bodies in Lymph Vessel Growth

  • Today we discuss research by Melissa Garcia-Caballero and a group in Belgium, published in 2019.
  • They found that elevation of ketone bodies in lymph, either through a ketogenic diet or through ketone supplementation can increase lymph vessel formation and help drain excess fluid.
  • This study is important to women with lipedema because women with this condition can’t have swelling, particularly in their lower legs.
  • Eating a diet that causes ketone production, such as a low carbohydrate ketogenic diet, may help with increased formation of lymph vessels and help reduce the swelling in women with lipedema.
