Sodium on a Ketogenic Way of Eating
- High carbohydrate diets cause the kidneys to hoard sodium.
- The ketogenic way of eating causes a lot of loss of water and inflammation, which helps with inflammation, but this also washes sodium out causing natriuresis of fasting.
- If sodium is not sufficiently replaced, this can progress to hyponatremia.
- If you are on a ketogenic way of eating, replace your lost sodium, and check with your doctor if you are salt sensitive.
