Lipedema and Hyperinsulinemia
- Hyperinsulinemia is normally seen in all women in puberty, pregnancy, stress, surgery, illness, injury, perimenopause, and menopause.
- Some women report gaining up to 100 lbs in response to these life events and challenges.
- For women with lipedema who are making more insulin than normal, these times in life can cause even more hyperinsulinemia. This may be assisting with rapid weight gain, and a large increase in lipedema fat experienced at these times.
- If you have lipedema, you may want to ask your doctor about trying the ketogenic way of eating to lower your insulin levels and improve your metabolic health.
