Understanding Lipedema at the Cellular Level
- Today, I’d like to share research conducted at Tulane University in Louisiana, USA, titled “Increase in Leptin and PPAR-γ Gene Expression in Lipedema Adipocytes Differentiated in vitro from Adipose-Derived Stem Cells,” published in the journal Cells in February 2020.
- The researchers aimed “to characterize the adipose-derived stem cells of healthy and lipedema patients.”
- They found a significant difference between lipedema stem cells and those from healthy controls.
- Specifically, lipedema stem cells are more prone to produce fat cells that proliferate and exhibit increased inflammation.
